Three… two… One! It’s almost New Year. Houghton and visit Keweenaw will host a ball drop on the waterfront tomorrow night. But the event will include a symbol of the region, a chook. The city will host the New Year’s Eve chook drop for the second time in 2024 going into 2025. Business Development Director Amy Zawada says that the fun times will start early in the night when the city hosts a special New Year’s event just for the area’s kids.
I think the little chook drop was created just so younger people, children could enjoy the New Year’s celebration without being out till midnight. We have fire pits going and this year at the 1130 event we will also have Mr. Caesar and the Luchatones band playing. So that’s a little extra fun. Come on down from wherever you are and watch the chook drop and go back out. – Amy Zawada, Business Development Director, City of Houghton
The kid’s chook drop at the Houghton waterfront will begin at 6:30 pm. In the evening visit Keweenaw and the city invites residents to the waterfront for the true New Year’s Eve chook drop. The second half of the night will start at 11:30 pm and will hear music from Mr. Caesar and the Luchatones.
