Visit Keweenaw and Houghton are Ringing in the New Year with a Chook Drop

New York City has the big ball drop at midnight on New Year’s Eve. But that can’t compete with the new Chook drop coming to Houghton. For the first time this year, the city of Houghton will host a New Year’s Eve get-together with a Visit Keweenaw featuring a one-of-a-kind “ball” drop of sorts. The ball in Houghton’s case will feature a chook, sometimes called a beanie, are popular hat commonly worn during winter activities or anytime people are outside. The New Year’s Eve celebration will take place at the Houghton waterfront pier, with people gathering starting at 11;30 pm December 31st. Visit Keweenaw hopes to invite the community to enjoy music, dancing, and a new festive way to ring in the new year. Organizers suggest wearing warm clothing and bringing friends and family to the pier on Sunday. Find more details here.
