Virginia Lambert Named as a Rural Representative on the Board of Directors for Child Advocacy Centers of Michigan

Virginia Lambert from the Houghton Keweenaw Child Advocacy Center has been elected to a statewide board focused on child advocacy. Lambert serves the community locally as the Victim Support Program Director with the Houghton Keweenaw CAC.

Last month the Board of Directors for Child Advocacy Centers of Michigan named her to a new position on the board as a rural representative. Currently, in the state, individuals employed by child advocacy centers are required to complete certified training courses downstate. Lambert will work to advocate for future funding, raise awareness for rural centers and victims, and bring training opportunities closer to the region.

Lambert says that the Upper Peninsula lacks certain key resources for children and advocates, and communities in the region are often overlooked. The Houghton Keweenaw Child Advocacy Center works with victims of abuse to record single interviews about their experience and works to begin a victim’s healing journey.
