Village of Laurium to Consider Police Pay Raise

Laurium’s part time police officer may get a raise soon. On Wednesday the village decided to table pay raises to next month’s meeting. The goal for the police department would raise wages up to 20 dollars an hour for part time police. This will help the department be more competitive when hiring and retaining officers. The pay raise would cost the village an additional 385 dollars for the year, based off of hours paid to all part time police in 2021. Laurium is also still search for an additional full time officer to join the department. The next village council meeting to discuss the pay raise will be May 17th.
