VetFest Returns to the Copper Country inside the Michigan Tech SDC Today

Houghton County VetFest returns to the Copper Country for the second year in a row. Last year the Houghton Veterans Service Office organized the region’s first veterans’ fest to share vital information with veterans about government programs, local organizations like VFW halls and American Legions, and organizations that support veterans’ lives in the country. During the 2023 VetFest Veterans Affairs Director Joe Battisfore says that they welcome more than 750 veterans, and anticipate many more this year to visit the Student Development Complex at Michigan Tech.

This year we ended up at the student development complex for Michigan Technological University. It’s a much larger venue, with great handicapped parking. We’re even gonna have volunteers there with golf carts. So if you do park a little ways away from the door, you can get a ride into the door. – Joe Battisfore, Director, Houghton Keweenaw Veterans Affairs Office

Every veteran who shows proof of service will receive a free 20-dollar gas gift card upon arrival. Veterans can also enjoy a free meal while learning more about more than 50 various programs, organizations, and veterans halls available to the local veteran community. VetFest will begin at 1 pm at the Michigan Tech SDC, and run until 5 pm. At 3 pm the event will host a program over viewing veteran benefits with Veterans Health Administration and the Veteran Service Office. Battisfore also suggests veteran caregivers may be interested in stopping by today to learn about more ways to impact a veteran’s quality of life.
