Registration has opened for this year’s Verna Mize Triathlon, coming up in August. The triathlon was named for Mize’s work protecting Lake Superior from iron ore shaving being dumped in the lake in the late 1960’s. The triathlon takes racers through three course events, swimming, a bike event, and last a brisk run. There are two form of the triathlon for racers to pick between, the main Mize, that includes ½ mile swim, 8 mile bike ride, and a 4 mile run. The mini Mize, cuts the race in half. Individuals or teams can take part in the Verna Mize Triathlon, and registration costs five dollars. Or $20 if you want a t-shirt to commemorate this years race. The race is open to everyone of all ages.
