The Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw Board of Education met Tuesday night, where it approved donations for its esports and gaming programs and commended the Horizons Alternative High School for being recognized for its innovation by the Canopy Project.
The district had more traditional items on its agenda as well, including the naming of its valedictorians for the 2020-21 senior class. Ten students were recognized for having a 4.0 GPA.

Gracia A. Perala – Daughter of Tina Laplander of Laurium & Greg Perala of Allouez
Abby L. Pietila – Daughter of Wesley and Barbara Pietila of Laurium
Nathan J. Spence – Son of James Spence of Calumet and Lisa Spence of Laurium
Hanna E Tuoriniemi – Daughter of Joel and Julianne Tuoriniemi of Mohawk
Zander T. Worm – Son of Jeremy and Jennifer Worm of Ahmeek
Rates for driver’s ed were set at $210 for district residents, $420 for out-of district.
CLK Elementary School is having registration for Kindergarten/Junior Kings in two weeks on the afternoon of March 24th, beginning at 2:00 PM. It will be an in-person event, but masks are required and other precautions are in place. Kindergarten is open for students who turn five before September 1st. Those who have a birthday between September 2nd and December 31st must have their parents complete a waiver form.
Parents ready to enroll their child need to bring their kid’s birth certificate, immunization record, and proof that they reside in the district.
