Hancock Councilman Will Lytle will be resigning from the body at Wednesday’s meeting. Since he was awarded his doctorate from Michigan Tech, various interview opportunities have opened up outside of the Copper Country for Lytle.
The opening means the council will soon be accepting applications for the seat. To be eligible, candidates must have been a resident of the city for at least six months. At a future session, current members will review and nominate the applicants they feel are best suited to fill the vacancy.
City Manager Mary Babcock says that if the panel is able to select an individual, they will complete Lytle’s term, which expires in November. They would then have to run a traditional campaign during the general election to retain the seat.
