Utility asks customers to avoid burying meters

A week of consistent snow has area residents trying to find places to put all of the white stuff. SEMCO Energy, which provides natural gas to the Copper Country, is hoping that you don’t choose right in front of your meter to dump the powder. If you see that the meter is developing snow buildup, gently brush it off with a broom or your hand. Do not use a shovel.

If ice has formed, call SEMCO to resolve the issue. The pressure regulator and attached pipe are delicate, so even de-icer can damage them. Many appliances have exhaust vents near the meter. You are advised to avoid placing snow against them as well.
