US Dept. of Agriculture aids L’Anse sewer rebuild

The next phase of the L’Anse sewer system rebuild is proceeding. At Monday’s meeting, the village council approved $2.7 million in contracts for work on the collection system, the sewer plant, and several lift stations. Village Manager Bob LaFave thanked the federal government for stepping up when the bids came in significantly higher than expected.

The bids that came in, like I said, initially were a bit of a problem, but after we received help from USDA Rural Development…gave us an extra half million dollars we are able tonight to bring this to you.

Seventy-five percent of the federal money is a grant. The other 25 percent is a low-interest loan, which will be paid back from sewer system revenue. Work is scheduled to begin this spring.
