UPSET sees growth, bucking trend nationwide

The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team continues to expand its operations. Under the leadership of Lieutenant Timothy Sholander, UPSET has branched out from one centralized location to four offices representing different regions. New members from law enforcement agencies, at the county and local level, are coming on board consistently. That’s very different from trends in America as a whole.

Captain Clint Michelin says that the UP’s demographics and rural nature make it less susceptible to the issues that have taken center stage elsewhere in the country, but it still is something the team has to be aware of. Growth is only possible through incredible support from the local level and everyone involved with UPSET does not take the goodwill for granted.

Maintaining those positive relationships and community partnerships, that’s been the key component to our continued success and our ability to enjoy a lot of support from the community across the Upper Peninsula.

Both men will be featured on Copper Country Today Sunday morning.
