Upper Peninsula experiencing critical blood shortage

The Upper Peninsula Regional Blood Center says it is running severely low on all blood types and is seeking donations. The organization has a location in Hancock, with walk-ins and appointments being accepted. Coordinator of Blood Collections Rachel Heath says visitors to the area are able to give a potentially life saving gift as well.

If they’re interested in donating, and they haven’t donated in the last eight weeks they can always stop by one of our blood drives or one of our blood centers to donate. We take people from out of state quite often when they are visiting family or friends.

The blood center is the primary supplier for all 13 hospitals in the Upper Peninsula. It also coordinates and oversees blood drives on a regular basis at area businesses and public gathering spaces.
