Upper Peninsula Accessibility Summit Starts in Less Than One Month

The Upper Peninsula Accessibility Summit will kick off in about one month. The two-day event hopes to address key issues and challenges for the disabled community living in the Upper Peninsula. The UP Accessibility Summit will be hosted by the group Accessible Keweenaw Initiative on Michigan Technological University campus. Over the two days Upper Peninsula businesses, individuals, organizations, and community leaders will gain actionable insight into creating inclusive spaces for recreation opportunities. Going beyond the trails and the woods, that summit will provide information about what’s needed for wheelchair-friendly spaces, adaptive equipment, and broader infrastructure, as well as teaching tools and strategies for making those impacts within the participants’ communities. Registration for the summit will cost 25 dollars for an individual ticket. Michigan Tech’s students can attend for free. Other groups participating in the summit include SAIL, the Disability Network of the UP, Travel Marquette, Keweenaw Support for Healthy Minds, Equipment Loans of the Keweenaw, and the Copper Shores Community Health Foundation.
