UPHS – Portage Named a Top 100 Rural Hospital by the Chartis Center for Rural Health

For a second year in a row, UP Health Systems Portage is recognized as a top 100 rural and community hospital. UPHS Portage was recently recognized as a top 100 rural and community hospital in a list compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The annual award recognizes outstanding performance among rural hospitals based on the Chartis Rural Hospital Proefrmance Index.

UPHS Portage CEO Ryan Heinonen says that the hospital is thrilled to receive this achievement for a second year all due to the hospital’s team of dedicated and compassionate staff who delivers top-quality care to their patients. Chartis Center national leader Michael Topchick added that during an era of uncertainty in rural healthcare, the hospitals awarded in the top 100 rural and community hospitals for 2024 continue to provide quality care while cultivating innovation.

UPHS Portage was one of seven included in the exclusive list in the state of Michigan. Two of these facilities are located in the Upper Peninsula; in Hancock, and Iron Mountain.
