The flu and respiratory illnesses are continuing to trend upward throughout Michigan and the western Upper Peninsula. Upper Peninsula Health Systems Portage continues to encourage residents, especially those working in medical facilities, receive their annual flu shot, and update other vaccinations. Throughout the flu season, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, recommends vaccination for everyone six months and older, with the age appropriate flu vaccine. UPHS – Portage, Director of Quality and Infection Prevention, Casey Baird says, staying up to date on your vaccination status for infections such as the flu, RSV, and Covid 19, are important to helping limit disease spread in the community. Baird also encourages residents to continue practicing healthy living by washing hands, covering you mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and staying home from work or activities when feeling under the weather. Those seeking to update their Covid 19 vaccine, or receive a rsv or flu shot, are encouraged to visit the UPHS – Portage Apothecary in Hancock. Walk ins are welcome. The UPHS – Portage Apothecary is located inside the hospital, at 500 Campus Drive in Hancock.
