The US Coast Guard rescued five people and a dog near Mackinac Island last week. On Friday after 2 pm, the United States Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes received a report for a capsized vessel with multiple people in the water including children, approximately 200 yards off the island. A small response boat was launched from the Coast Guard’s St. Ignace Station immediately. Within 20 minutes the rescue crew located the capsized vessel, all five persons and a dog. All people and the dog were safely recovered from the water. Lieutenant Alex Waide reminds boaters of the importance of ensuring all people have a properly fitting life jacket.
