Two-vehicle accident in Mohawk causes injury

One woman was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash in Mohawk Thursday morning. The Road Commission had halted traffic as it conducted snow removal on US-41 near Keweenaw Pines. At approximately 11:30, a 24-year-old woman from Laurium had idled her car to allow crews to finish their work. There was no stop sign or temporary light at the scene, only flag control. An 89-year-old woman from Mohawk did not recognize the situation early enough and was unable to stop, rear-ending the parked car.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and the elderly woman was injured. She was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw by Mercy Ambulance to receive further treatment. The Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department is continuing with the investigation at this time.
