Two New Groups Working with MSHDA to Disperse $750,000 for the MI-HOPE Progam

Two Keweenaw Peninsula group have received grants from the MI HOPE program to help area residents rreedcue electric and heating costs in their homes. The Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Community Action Agency and Copper Country Habitat for Humanity were awarded a total of 750,000 dollars from the state of Michigan to become funding arms of the MI-HOPE program. The Community Action Agency will disperse 250,000 dollars within the community, while the Copper Country Habitat for Humanity will work with 500,000 dollars.

The MI-HOPE grant program assists Michigan residents with making home repairs and upgrades focused on energy efficiency. Such as replacing HVAC systems, window and roof repairs, appliance upgrades, and storm door installation. Different agencies working with MSHDA on the MI HOPE program tend to focus on specific types of projects.

Late last year the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region became the first group in the western region to work with MSHDA and the MI HOPE program. Working with an initial 500,000 dollars.
