Guts Frisbee has many ties to the Keweenaw Peninsula. From a simple family backyard game to today a competitive sport. This weekend the 64th Annual Coca-Cola International Frisbee Tournament will bring some of the world’s best Guts Frisbee players to the Hancock Driving Park for two days of action. And even a hall of fame induction ceremony.
A ceremony is planned for tonight at the Continential Fire Co. in Houghton. Tickets for the ceremony are $20, and can be purchased online, with a two dollar surcharge added on. There will be dinner and appetizers served, the event starts at 7pm.
There are five local teams competeing this year, and all hope to be the ones to bring the trophy back home to the Keweenaw for the first time the late 90’s. Notably local a local squad, Shottle Bop, who recently brought home the Iron Man 3 on 3 tournement trophy. Defeating Maquette Wooden Nickel, handing them their first loss that weekend in Hartland, MI. But a fierce field of teams await this year, with some traveling from Chicago, northern Wisconsin, the Upper Peninsula and even downstate.
