Houghton Community Broadcasting is teaming up with the Copper Country Humane Society again this year for 12 Pets of Christmas. Beginning this morning, one animal will be spotlighted on our radio stations each weekday as we look for a permanent home for loving dogs and cats. The partnership runs through January 13th and is sponsored by Superior Tax and Accounting, the Copper Country Veterinary Clinic, and Tadych’s Marketplace.
Treasurer Alexandria Guth says that before she became part of the organization she adopted from the shelter. She says that many of the animals there just need a chance to shine and once they understand that they’re in a loving situation, their true personalities come out.
Adoptions are being done by appointment only at the Copper Country Humane Society. There is a drop off box for sheets, litter, and food outside the building. Volunteers can also arrange to be dog walkers or cat cuddlers. Guth says plenty of opportunities to help exist, including supporting local events like Raise the Woof next month.
The first pet is Gretchen, “a 5-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix who is a very happy girl. She loves to go for walks, but doesn’t require a ton of activity. She’s a pretty low-maintenance dog who loves everyone she meets.”
