Michigan Techs Husky Eats partners with TRIO Upward Bound for a delicious summer program. Tomorrow twenty-three local high school students will participate in a culinary cook-off as a part of the TRIO summer programs offered at Michigan Technological University. The culinary program has been sponsored by Husky Eats, as a part of Chartwell Higher Education. During the program students learn the basics of cooking, baking, kitchen safety, how to combine flavors, and much more throughout the 12-session program in June and July.
Trio Upward Bound Director David Kamrad days the education program is proud to partner with Husky Eats on the goal to help prepare students for not just academic success. But also to develop skills for a lifetime. In the program, Husky Eats professionals teach proper food handling, kitchen safety, meal budgeting, measuring, and careers in the culinary arts. The program also includes some time spent with Michigan Tech’s campus dietitian Eric Schley to learn about nutrition labels, allergens, portioning, and USDA guidelines for balanced meals. Local business owners have even helped with the program including a tour of North Harvest Farms, Bread Loafers Bakery, and Roy’s Pasty and Bakery.
