Mike Pelfrey struck out seven of his former teammates over five innings, as the Chicago White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 8-2 Friday night. Pelfrey worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth inning, in a game that was delayed 85 minutes because of rain. Matthew Boyd struggled, giving up three runs on nine hits before leaving in the fourth inning. Blaine Hardy and Chad Bell surrendered the other five runs in relief. Alex Avila homered for Detroit.
The first game of yesterday’s doubleheader was rained out. To make it up, the Tigers and Sox will play a doubleheader today. Buck Farmer will make his first start of the year for Detroit in the opener. Derek Holland will pitch for the Sox. Michael Fulmer will face Tyler Danish in the second game. Pregame coverage will begin at 1:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
The Arizona Diamondbacks scored twice in the 10th inning, and defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2 Friday night. Milwaukee led 2-1 going into the ninth inning, but Chris Ianetta’s homer off Corey Knebel forced the extra frame. Wily Peralta took the loss in relief. Jett Bandy homered for the Crew.
The Brewers host the Diamondbacks again this afternoon. Chase Anderson will pitch against Zack Greinke.
