Tigers Fall, Brewers Earn Late Comeback Win – Monday Sports Wrap

Verlander

MLB
The Detroit Tigers fell to the Los Angeles Angels 4-1 yesterday. Detroit took a brief lead in the top of the first, but Mike Trout’s homer in the bottom of the inning tied the game. Danny Espinosa hit a solo shot to give L-A the lead in the fourth inning. Justin Verlander battled control problems through six innings, walking five batters. He tired in the seventh, was charged with two more runs, and took the loss.

Piña

The Tigers have today off, and open a home series against the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow night. Matthew Boyd will start against Wade Miley. Pregame coverage will begin at 7:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

The Milwaukee Brewers outslugged the New York Mets 9-7 yesterday. The Crew trailed 7-1 after five innings, but rallied with two in the sixth, three in the seventh, and five in the eighth inning to claim the win. Manny Piña’s three-run homer in the eighth put Milwaukee on top. Keon Broxton and Jonathan Villar also homered. The comeback rescued starter Wily Peralta, who gave up seven runs before leaving in the fifth inning.

The Brewers open a set against the Padres in San Diego tonight. Chase Anderson will pitch against Luis Perdomo.

NHL
In the NHL playoffs yesterday, the Ducks defeated the Predators 5-3. The Western Conference final is tied at one win per team, and will continue tomorrow at Nashville.

In the Eastern Conference final, the Penguins host the Senators tonight. Ottawa leads that series 1-0.

NBA
In the opening game of the NBA Western Conference final, the Warriors rallied from 25 points down to defeat the Spurs 113-111. That series continues tomorrow night in California.

The last Eastern Conference semifinal will conclude tonight, when the Celtics host the Wizards. That set is tied 3-3. The winner will face the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference final.
