The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, collaborating with the UP Human Trafficking Task Force and the UP Human Oppression Strike Team, arrested three men recently for child sex crimes.
34-year-old Jeffrey David Redd of Laurium, along with 21-year-old Kahleb Thorsson Senia-Wicks and 27-year-old Jason Wesley Davis of Calumet, have all been charged with several felonies. The Houghton County Prosecutor’s Office will potentially seek convictions for Child Sexually Abusive Activity, Use of a Computer to Commit Child Sexually Abusive Activity, and Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes. Two of the charges carry with them up to a 20-year prison sentence. Redd has also been charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Cocaine.
UPHOST is a combination of county and municipal law enforcement agencies covering the region. Sheriff Josh Saaranen says he “appreciates the collaboration between the four-county sheriff’s, UPHTTF and the UPHOST team. We’re working together to not only take predators into custody but to also make sure that there are strong avenues for individuals and victims to receive advocacy and help.”
The groups recently held a community event to highlight the threat of human trafficking in the area, screening “Ring of Silence” at Hancock Central High School last month.
