A late winter snowstorm has left thousands in the central Upper Peninsula without power. Yesterday’s winter storm blew in strong winds and heavy wet snowfall in Marquette and Delta counties. UPPCO, the region’s largest electric utility provider, reports more than 5,000 units are without power. UPPCO’s outage map shows that about 75 percent of those served in Marquette and Delta counties do have power.
Delta County Emergency Management opened warming centers for the affected. Another warming center was set up at the North Dickinson County School last night after power was lost at other shelters in the county. Utility crews are dealing with several downed power lines across Delta County, and are working to restore power as soon as possible.
Please contact your utility provider for more up to date information on the progress to restore power. UPPCO’s website and reporting tools can be found here.
