Runners, get ready, set , go. The MTU Air Force ROTC’s Prisoner of War/Missing in Action 5K run start bright and early tomorrow morning. Those that are interested but haven’t signed up yet will have one last chance before the race starts at 11 am. This year’s race even has prizes, that were donated by businesses in the community wishing to show support for the students and the Hubbell VFW.
“We have some really awesome prizes from Dreamland, the Michigan House, Calumet Floral, Roy Chiropractic ,and Louie’s Fine Foods in Hubbell.” – Kyle Deneef, Senior
Racers will meet out in front of the ROTC building, on campus. It is located near the clock tower, and there will be tents outside with volunteers and race organizers.
“And then, everything will be starting here at the ROTC building. There will be a start and end marked on the sidewalk in front of the ROTC building. And then the runners are going to go down to the waterfront trail. And then all the way down to the bridge. Turn around and come back.” – Eliya Huebner, Junior
Each year the Air force ROTC has donated the money raised to the Hubbell VFW. Last year they helped the veterans replace windows, and this year will help re establish the community’s veteran honor roll.
“So, I know, last year they replaced the windows in the upstairs, so we got to give them brand new windows. This year, they have the honor roll memorial for people in the area, that served in World War II, they’re gonna re-do that.” – Lilly Bolliger, Senior
