The Northern Lights Hockey Night Brings Veterans and the Community Together to Support Equipment Loans of the Keweenaw

Even if many of the area’s hockey seasons have ended. That does not mean the community can’t still catch a game this weekend. While also supporting the Equipment Loans of the Keweenaw. Tomorrow night the Michigan Upper Peninsula Veterans Hockey Club and the Minnesota Warriors will face off for the North Light Hockey Night.

I think when service members leave service; they leave a good chunk of who they are behind. They lose the spirit of the corps that they had with their fellow service members. But also they lose some of their mission. There were always goals that they had to do, that they had to accomplish, and that gave to the greater good. The Michigan U.P. Veterans Hockey Club is just a bunch of big kids on the ice. We get along great. The comradery in the locker-room and on the ice is the same as that in the military. And I think that fills a big void for what a lot of us miss about military service. But then on top of that, this allows us to interact with the community. And give back to the community to keep servicing. – John French, Assistant Captain, M.U.P.V.H.C.

Organizers are excited to have the community join the veterans at the historic Dee Stadium tomorrow evening. All proceeds raised during the night will help support ELK providing used and new mobility equipment to individuals in the community. Tickets for the game cost 5 dollars. All active duty service members, first responders, and kids under 12 get can attend for free.
