The Keweenaw Health Foundation supports the establishment of a youth basketball league through sponsorship. Recently the Keweenaw Health Foundation announced it will sponsor the establishment of the Keweenaw Youth Basketball League for students in junior kindergarten to 6th grade. The league will run over six weeks at the start of the school year hosted by Calumet Laurium Keweenaw Schools. The sponsorship by the health foundation will offset expenses and keep costs at a fair price for families. The league aims to foster community spirit, promote physical activity, and engage youth in the Copper Country.
In previous years families have traveled many miles for students to participate in similar programs, and the Keweenaw Health Foundation is proud to bring such a program closer to home for the Copper Country. Executive director of the Keweenaw Health Foundation Jenn Jenich-Laplander says that the group believes by supporting the league they promote kids staying healthy and creating strong bonds within their community.
