The Friends of the Copper island academy’s recent fundraising dinner, helped more than just the school, and its students. During the group’s annual fundraising dinner, an auction was held, with the majority of proceeds going to the Copper Island Academy. With four special items up for bid, four Amercian flags, half of which the proceeds would benefit not just the school , but also two local veteran’s groups. Together the four flags raised 4,000 dollars. The funds allowed the Friends of the Copper Island Academy to donate 1,000 dollars to each, the Mohawk American Legion Post 230, and the Copper Country Veterans Association. In total the Friends of the Copper Island Academy annual fundraising dinner raised 75,000 dollars. In addition to the fundraiser, an anonymous donor, announced a campaign to match 50,000 dollars in 50 days for a land acquisition for the school.
