The 67th Ontonagon Labor Day Festival will Feature the Vietnam Moving Wall Memorial

No town quite does Labor Day like the Village of Ontonagon. Today starts the 67th annual three day festival. This year festival organizers will honor Vietnam Moving Wall memorial founder, John Devitt, as the parade marshall. The Vietnam Moving Wall has traveled throughout the United States since 1984, honoring those who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.

The Ontonagon Labor Day Festival will open for the weekend with a community picnic at the Village Marina Pavilion. Attendees can enjoy a free meal from 4 to 5 pm. Other activities around the village marina today include a touch-a-truck area with local emergency services, a rock skipping competition, and a special tailgate before Ontonagon Gladiators high school football game at 7 pm. Later in the evening the Labor Day Festival moves to the Eagles Club and VFW Post 5600 for live music.

Saturday will start with some bright and shiny chrome at the Laborfest Auto Show, with awards announced later in the day. As well as a an art show from the Friends of the Porkies and Ontoangon Theater of Preforming Arts, and Ontonagon Artists Initiative’s Chalk Art Event. Followed at dusk by a grand fireworks show.

Sunday the festival will host a pancake breakfast at the VFW. The last day of the festival will also include the Labor Day parade. Led my Parade Marshall John Devitt.
