The 2024 KORC Spring Clean Up Removes Over 3,600 Pounds of Trash from the Keweenaw Peninsula

Keweenaw Outdoor Recreation Coalition proudly announces the 2024 spring clean-up as the most successful yet. In total KORC gathered over 90 volunteers to remove over 3,600 pounds of refuse from areas throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula.

The organization focused on historic dump sites around High Rock Bay, Horseshoe Harbor, Keystone Bay, the Mandan Road loop, Schlatter Lake the Bte Grise Preserve, Thayer Lake, Lac La Belle/Gay Road, Fish Cove, Hoar Lake, Hunter’s Point, Brockway Mountain Drive, Maganese Bridge Road, The Delaware Shortcut, Brunette Park, the Lizzardro Lakeshore Preserve, Copper Harbor’s streets, and motorized trails as far south as Calumet.

Following a busy morning cleaning up, volunteers were invited to Donny Kilpela Park in Copper Harbor for a picnic. There volunteers also enjoyed a prize giveaway along with a delicious meal provided by Don and Peg Kauppi and the Mariner North. Other individuals who helped KORC throughout the day included Roger Perrault on the grill, ACE Hardware of Calumet for trash bags and gloves,  KATV and Keweenaw Snowmobile Club members for trail clean up, and Fresh Coast Cabins, Keweenaw Brewing Company, Rhythm Bike and Board Co., Keweenaw Coffee Works, Studio 13, The Mariner North, The Genny, The Fitz, The Laughing Loon, Kitschy Spirit Records, Northology Adventures, Calumet Keweenaw Sportsman’s Club, and KORC who provided prizes for the picnic giveaway. KORC would like to extend gratitude to all of the volunteers who helped clear 3,600 pounds of trash from the Keweenaw’s beautiful landscapes.
