More than 140 soldiers returned home. Over the weekend the Michigan Army National Guard’s 107th Engineer Battalion returned home, flying into Sawyer International Airport. The battalion had been deployed in Southwest Asia for the past ten months, as a part of Operation Spartan Shield. The men and women of the 107th Engineer Battalion were tasked with construction management, engineering, and logistical support in the region. In 2007 and 2008 the battalion had been deployed to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 140 soldiers returned to Gwinn, Michigan on Saturday, arriving at Sawyer International Airport.
