Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center has named a second Associate Director. Stephen Techtmann will join Pengfei Xue, as the research center’s second associate director.
Techtmann is an associate professor with the University’s Department of Biological Sciences. He will lead the Great Leakes Research Center’s Environmental, Biology, Biotechnology, and Water Quality Research Team. GLRC Director, Tim Havens says Dr. Techtmann has become a visionary in the area of environmental microbiology, and will work with his team to continue to grow GLRC abilities. Techtmann is a recipient of the Young Faculty Award from the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency with the United States Department of Defense, and a co-winner of the 2021 Merck Future insight Award. Techtmann says he is excited to join the team at the Great Lakes Research Center and looks forward to expanding research capabilities in environmental biology and biotechnology.
