A COVID-19 vaccine clinic initially scheduled for just Michigan Tech faculty and students has been opened to the general public. Shots are administered in the Student Development Complex’s Wood Gym today until 5 PM and Thursday beginning at 8 AM. Walk-ins are accepted, but not preferred. Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center Chief Operating Officer Shannon Richter says making an appointment helps to avoid clusters of people. When a crush happens, it is difficult to ensure social distancing.
Richter says the reason for the change in eligibility is a fairly simple one.
Access to the SDC has been restricted since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, but Richter says collaboration between Upper Great Lakes and Tech made the decision to open the vaccinations to everyone an easy decision.
The clinic was originally scheduled to use the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, but it has been switched to Moderna following the pause announcement that came out last week. Richter says to expect to be at the SDC for roughly an hour, and that includes the waiting period post-shot.
Contact information for scheduling an appointment is available in the press release below.
