Today is giving Tuesday, and there are various campaigns happening all over the country, and right here in the Keweenaw. A second campaign that is separate from the Portage Health Foundation’s own campaign, has been organized by the Gratiot Lake Conservancy in Keweenaw County. Recently there group held their first in person meeting since the start of the covid-19 pandemic. The Gratiot Lake Conservancy began in 1998 with the goal of conserving land and educating the community. Their land’s preserve 510 acres of forest, 14,000 feet of shoreline, a restored 1940’s style cabin, the Noblet Field Station, and several miles of hiking trails, in the Gratiot Lake Preserve. The 501 c 3 also protects 466 acres of upland forest at the historic Bammert Farm.
