Storms leave mark across area

The severe thunderstorms that rolled through the Upper Peninsula Tuesday evening left their mark locally. Sporadic power outages dotted the landscape as far north as the Houghton/Hancock area. A check of UPPCO’s outage map on Wednesday morning showed all problem spots had been fixed and service was available to every customer in the county.

One of the locations without power overnight was Portage Lake Golf Course. A tree near the entrance toppled onto a line next to US-41.

The grounds crew was making repairs before 7:00 AM. Chainsaws whirred and cut through three thick trunks blown over by winds that still gusted as high as 45 miles per hour as Keweenaw Report surveyed the course.

The signature loss occurred on the ninth hole in the right rough.

A couple of other trees lost large limbs. Nearby Chassell received over three inches of rain.
