State Park camping is just starting in the Copper Country.
The Keweenaw is home to two state parks, McLain State Park in Hancock Township, and Fort Wilkins State Park in Copper Harbor.
Michigan’s state parks were visited by many people during the COVID-19 pandemic, many of whom plan to keep coming back.
Fort Wilkins state park has opened to campers wishing to enjoy a trip to the northernmost point in the state mainland.
McLain State Park will not open campsite registration until June 15th in the event of a worst-case scenario. The local health department continues to monitor bacteria levels in flood waters around the park. The park is also wrapping up a construction project replacing two water wells.
