State House Urges DNR to Move Forward with the Houghton-Douglass Falls Park

The House of Representatives in Michigan passes a resolution seeking park status for Houghton Douglass Falls. On Wednesday 110th District Representative Greg Markkanen’s resolution urging the Department of Natural Resources to declare the Houghton Douglass Falls as the Houghton Douglass Falls Veterans Scenic Site, a unit of McLain State Park, was passed in the House. The Department purchased the property of the falls in 1028 from Vietnam war veteran Jim Kuusisto, with the understanding the falls would be dedicated in honor of Michigan’s veterans. The falls lie on a 70-acre site that was purchased with the intent of designing an accessible park for visitors to view the falls. The location is the tallest waterfall in the state 110 feet tall
