Stamp out hunger is coming up again this weekend.
Place your unexpired, non-perishable food in a bag out by your mailbox for your local mail carriers to pick up. The mail carriers will then drop off the bags at the Hancock post office, where it is weighed and then distributed to local charities.
“The local charities would be St. Vincent de Paul, The Salvation Army, and Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly are the three that would be taking the food. We basically look for non-perishables, [but] I guess there really is no limitation as to what you can give. I guess they do ask that if you give canned goods, just check [the] expiration date on them. I know one of the most common questions asked is ‘what happens if you happen to be going out of town or you might not be around on that Saturday?’ What you can do is you can just drop [the food bag] off at the local post office and we will make sure it gets to the local food pantries.” – Frank Destrampe, City Carrier and Local Food Drive Coordinator for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
You can also call your local post office to have the bag picked up.
Every year they typically collect between 8,000-17,000 pounds of food.
“With the post office, we cover basically every residence, and it’s such a good program that as we go along we can pick up the groceries as we do our job and also we know that everybody in every community has a need, and this will definitely benefit the local community. They basically support us, and now this is our way of supporting them.” – Frank Destrampe, City Carrier and Local Food Drive Coordinator for Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive
Place your bags of food items alongside your mailbox on this Saturday to contribute.
