MLB
The Tigers and Brewers were off on Monday, but at least for Detroit it was still a productive day in the standings as they fight with Cleveland for second place in the American League Central. The Indians lost at Minnesota 5-4 in extra innings, falling back a half game. Coincidentally, that is now the margin between the two teams. Cleveland nursing a slight edge.
Tonight, the Tigers host the Los Angeles Angels, formerly of Anaheim, formerly just Anaheim. No Mike Trout but there is still plenty of spectacle. Miguel Cabrera goes for number 500 and there’s some guy named Shohei Ohtani. The potential MVP had a seven-game hitting streak snapped Monday night in New York. The pitching matchup is Dylan Bundy versus Casey Mize. Bundy enters the game with a 6.29 ERA, but Tigers hitters have been quiet against him in the past. Robbie Grossman has the most at-bats versus Bundy, 18, and he’s hitting just .167. You can hear the game on 99.3 The Lift. 6:50 is pregame with 7:10 first pitch.
Runs might be hard to come by in St. Louis with the Brewers visiting. Corbin Burnes versus Adam Wainwright in the pitching matchup tonight. The Crew have been solid all year and are cruising in the National League Central, but St. Louis is putting it together under the radar. They’re now 61-56, just four back for the second Wild Card slot.
NBA
The Motorcade was stuck in park, but no problem for the Pistons to wrap up the Summer League last night in Las Vegas. Detroit was without Cade Cunningham and Killian Hayes, but still had a few tricks up their sleeve against the Orlando Magic, winning 79-78. 21 from Luka Garza and another 19 from Saben Lee, with help from Jamorko Pickett who was plus-12 on the night. Pickett certainly made an impression this summer. The undrafted Georgetown Hoya has earned himself a real look come fall and the NBA preseason.
