Cabrera

MLB
Miguel Cabrera’s two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning powered the Detroit Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays last night. Justin Verlander wasn’t sharp, but held the Rays to two runs over seven innings, and Detroit took a 3-2 lead into the eighth. That evaporated when Steven Souza, Junior, hit a solo home run of Francisco Rodriguez. That set the stage for Cabrera’s first home run since May 20th.

Thames

The Tigers host the Rays again tonight. Daniel Norris will start against Erasmo Ramírez. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.

Eric Thames’ homer in the top of the ninth lifted the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals last night. Zach Davies gave up all four St. Louis runs over five innings. He left the game with the score tied. Keon Broxton also homered for the Crew.

The Brewers host the San Diego Padres tonight. Junior Guerra will pitch against Miguel Diaz.

Twilight League
In Copper Country Twilight League baseball play last night…
– Superior National Bank-Stanton won both ends of its doubleheader against REL-Mohawk Technologies. In the first game, Cole Jepson and Tyler LaDuron combined for the shutout in a 3-0 victory. LaDuron also homered. Trent Keteri threw a complete-game, three-hitter as SNB won the nightcap 12-0. Jepson, Justin Kirby and Eric Nettel each drove in two runs.
– Dean Kangas-State Farm scored twice in the top of the eighth inning, and edged Wolverine-Orbit 10-8. Wolverine forced the extra inning by scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh. Brady Turner went the distance for the win. Brian Juopperi and Dave Wesa each had three hits for State Farm. Zach Hill had four hits for Wolverine.

NFL
The Detroit Lions have traded a sixth-round pick in the 2018 draft to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for offensive tackle Greg Robinson. Robinson was the number-two pick overall in the 2014 draft, but has fallen far short of expectations. The Lions hope he can fill in for injured lineman Taylor Decker, who will miss at least four months following shoulder surgery.
