Sharon Avenue work begins next week

A culvert is scheduled to be replaced that runs underneath Sharon Avenue just east of M-26. The work begins next week and will see traffic detoured onto Razorback Drive from both directions. A left-hand turn signal was recently added to the Razorback/Memorial Drive intersection, which should help in ensuring backups are kept to a minimum as the street digests heavier than normal traffic volumes.

The city says it has designed the detour to allow access to all businesses located on the affected stretch of road. Once the temporary steel culvert is replaced by a concrete box version, work on the component should not be needed for decades. Its expected useful life is 30 years. The current culvert was installed immediately after the Father’s Day Flood to allow Sharon Avenue to reopen.
