A brand new month means a new Superior Educator. And the first local teacher recognized for the new year is Shari Tapani from Houghton Elementary School. Tapani was nominated by a student’s parent, who says that she is a one of a kind individual, and always puts her elementary kids first. Tapani goes beyond the call of a teacher, assisting students and her colleagues with anything from bussing, first aid, or a simple hug. The Superior Educator Award is awarded to two teachers a month from the Copper Country, and is presented by the Portage Health Foundation.
