Wednesday morning’s crash on US-41 near Baraga State Park sent five people to the hospital. It involved two vehicles and was caused by icy road conditions. At around eight, a man lost control of a pickup truck. It crossed the median and collided with a sport utility vehicle. There were five passengers in the truck, an uncle and four members of his extended family. Three other occupants required hospitalization in addition to the uncle. A facebook post advertising a medical benefit meal described the injuries suffered as extensive in nature.
The driver of the SUV was also taken to the hospital for treatment. Baraga County Memorial Hospital received everyone involved. An investigation is ongoing, being conducted by the Baraga County Sheriff’s Department. US-41 was closed for several hours.
Also assisting at the scene were Baraga Police, L’Anse Police, Michigan State Police, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police, Baraga Fire, and L’Anse Fire.
