Tomorrow is the start of Healthy Aging Month. A recent AARP survey found that 77 percent of older Americans want to live in their own home safely, independently and comfortably. It is estimated that by 2030 the population of Americans over the age of 65 will reach 75 million people. Aging in place is defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as, the ability to live in one’s own home and community safely and independently, regardless of age income or ability level. In an ongoing effort to educate the community The Portage Lake District Library is displaying information about aging in place. In addition to the information displays, on September 13th the library will host AARP Michigan’s Associate state director Karen Kafantaris, to present a HomeFit Workshop, via zoom.
