SEMCO Reminds Customers to Keep Snow Clear from Gas Equipment During Winter

With all of the snow that’s dropped from the sky this last week, SEMCO Energy has an important reminder for customers. While shoveling the driveway and clearing snow from the roof customers should try to keep snow and ice from gas meters. Which may cause hazardous situations or service disruption. To keep equipment working properly the utility company suggests:

Never allow snow or ice to cover the natural gas meter or pressure regulator or block exhaust vents.

Use caution when shoveling or plowing to avoid snow build-up against the meter, regulator, or vents.

Remove soft snow that has built up with a brush or your hands, rather than a shovel that could cause damage to equipment.

Do not try to remove ice that has formed on the natural gas meter, regulator, or piping. If any piece of equipment experiences a large ice dam please contact SEMCO Energy for assistance.  SEMCO gas can be reached via a toll-free phone number at 1 800 624 2019.
