Search and rescue teams found two overdue hikers in Marquette County’s McCormick Wilderness late Saturday night.

According to a release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were called in on Saturday night just after 7 p.m. to help find two hikers said to be on the North Country Trail who were late to return.

Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Marquette County Search and Rescue team were told the two hikers were last known to be near the south shore of Lake Raymond in the McCormick Wilderness Area.

Search teams began by hiking the North Country Trail and searching surrounding roads.

After an over six-hour search, a SAR team with a search dog named K-9 Trace found both hikers around 2:40 a.m.

They were a few miles from their last known location and extremely wet and cold, but said they did not need medical treatment.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office advised all hikers venturing outdoors to make sure they are safe and prepared.
