There’s less than one month until kids start cracking open the books again. Local public schools will open their doors for the first day of the new year on September 3rd. Ahead of that though students, and parents, will have a lot to prepare. Fall sports will begin soon, and with it comes practice ahead of the season. While some sports may have held some form of conditioning over the summer practices will officially begin on August 12th. New students to local districts and freshmen at Houghton High School will also need to meet for orientation before the start of school. Houghton Portage Township schools plan to host orientation on August 27th, one week ahead of the school year’s start. Additionally, at this time kids around the age of 15 may consider joining the driver’s education program in the area. Those interested in learning more about the start of the school year, that’ll be here before you know it, can find more details and contact information for local school districts below.
