School Officials Report No Credibility to a Rumor of a Threat at Area Schools

Houghton Portage Township Schools and Hancock Public Schools notified the community that there is no credible threat to districts in the Keweenaw Peninsula. This morning district leadership and law enforcement were told of a potential threat to schools in the area. An investigation conducted by school resource officers and area law enforcement found the threat to only be a rumor. There is no credibility to the rumor, as school officials believe it was part of a nationwide social media hoax that has interrupted schools. The district continues to enhance safety and security at facilities. All threats against the school district are taken seriously.
