Scammers misrepresenting themselves as Houghton Police

If you are living or working in the City of Houghton, be aware that scammers are targeting residents by impersonating members of the police department. The criminals begin the call by asking for monetary donations and then threaten you with arrest if you don’t comply. The department says in a release that it will never behave in such a manner. Financial and legal matters are not handled over the phone.

Further, Houghton City Police remind you not to give out sensitive financial or personal information like credit card and banking information, or your social security number.
